AN EXEMPTION from health and safety law for the self-employed gets closer with the publication of draft regulations.
The Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 (General Duties of Self-Employed Persons) (Prescribed Undertakings) Regulations 2015 will bring into effect provisions in the Deregulation Act 2015 from October 1st this year.
But the exemption will only apply outside of certain specific occupations including agriculture and forestry, construction and any work with asbestos.
Some health and safety experts believe the regulations could be a step too far.
